Northern California Writers' Retreat is a juried retreat for 18 fiction writers, set in Carmel Valley, in the shade of deep-rooted oak trees, the Santa Lucia mountain range as our backdrop. The retreat features one Author-in-Residence--a fiction writer who has published at least one novel who is there to serve as a mentor to our writers--and two Guest Literary Agents, who help lead workshops, offer advice on the publishing industry, and discuss their roles and what they want to see in submissions. Founder and director Heather Lazare also leads a workshop, and discusses her industry experience as a former editor at Penguin Random House and S&S. By bringing together an author, literary agents, and an editor, it is our hope that participants will walk away with a deeper understanding of the publishing industry--as well as a writing partner or two! Come join us as we enter our tenth year!
