John Claude Bemis Writing Retreat

Chateau

Fiction writers of all genres are welcome for this week-long retreat in a spectacular chateau in the heart of the Bordeaux vineyards.

Along with eight other writers, you’ll gather each morning for three hours in one of the castle’s magnificent rooms—or poolside—to explore techniques to make each scene and every page more captivating to readers. You’ll learn new ways to create an immersive writing voice with point-of-view, how to micro-plot scenes into strong arcs, and how to weave together your characters’ interior lives with their external struggles. Each participant will have a one-hour private consultation with John.

Each morning we’ll gather together for three hours in one of the castle’s magnificent rooms—or poolside—to learn new writing skills, cultivate a more highly creative practice, and share our writing in a supportive, constructive environment. The storytelling tools you’ll gain will be powerful and will empower you to hone your unique voice. Each participant will have a one-hour private session.

When not reading or writing, we’ll tour the château’s vineyard and enjoy a private tasting of their wine. We’ll also tour the Citadel of Blaye, a UNESCO World Heritage Site by miniature train, visit the local farmer’s market, and dine out in the local restaurants.
